Max For Live Device For Motion Hub

February 12, 2026

This was the last step of integrating the Motion Hub app with hardware to facilitate the musical performance and live visual augmentation into the same interface.

This Max for Live device is added to a track in an Ableton Live set so that the Motion Hub knobs can be turned and effect the visuals right from the Push MIDI controller.

This is a project that would have been completely out of my wheelhouse without AI development via Claude Code. I don't have much hardware experience, and this needed to use OSC (Open Sound Control). OSC is a network-based communication protocol designed to share musical performance data between computers, synthesizers, and multimedia devices.

I have used Max for Live devices in my music making experiments, but building my own was a step to the unknown. This was a really fun project that was even more fun to test!
